Lekuresi Castle sits on a hilltop 233 metres above sea level, overlooking the city of Saranda, the shimmering Ionian Sea, and the green hills of Corfu just across the water. Built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in 1537, the fortress was constructed to defend the coast against Venetian naval power.
The castle's strategic position made it one of the most important defensive structures in the region. Today, the well-preserved walls, towers, and battlements offer visitors a glimpse into centuries of Albanian and Ottoman history.
Beyond its history, Lekuresi is famous for its panoramic views — arguably the best vantage point in all of southern Albania. Watching the sun set over Corfu from the castle ramparts is an experience that stays with you.
